During the 1973 NBA season, Jerry West continued to be an important player for the Los Angeles Lakers, though he saw a slight decline in his statistics compared to the previous season. He played in 60 games and averaged 20.3 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Despite West’s continued strong play, the Lakers finished the regular season with a record of 47-35, earning the third seed in the Western Conference playoffs. However, they lost in the first round to the Chicago Bulls in a hard-fought seven-game series.

West did have some notable milestones during the 1973 season, including scoring his 25,000th career point and moving up to sixth on the NBA’s all-time assists list. He was also named an All-Star for the ninth time in his career, though he did not play due to injury.

Off the court, the 1973 NBA season was an important one for West because it marked the end of his playing career. After the playoffs, West announced his retirement, having played his entire professional career for the Lakers. He left the game as a 14-time NBA All-Star, a former NBA scoring champion, and a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
