The 2000 NBA season was another strong one for Gary Payton, who continued to play for the Seattle SuperSonics. He appeared in 82 games for the second consecutive season, and put up impressive numbers: he averaged 24.2 points, 6.5 assists, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game. He also shot 47.8 percent from the field and 30.9 percent from 3-point range.

Payton’s efforts helped lead the SuperSonics to a record of 45-37 and a playoff spot, where they were eliminated in the first round by the Utah Jazz in five games. Despite the early postseason exit, Payton made a significant impact and scored 32 points in one of the games, putting up strong offensive performances throughout the season.

Payton’s achievements also stood out during the season, as he was named to the All-NBA First Team, and the NBA All-Defensive First Team, and was chosen as a starter for the NBA All-Star Game, though he did not play in the game due to injury.

Interestingly, Payton was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks towards the end of the season, but for statistical purposes, his numbers from the 2000 season are considered part of his record with the SuperSonics.

Overall, the 2000 NBA season was arguably one of Gary Payton’s best, as he was a consistent top performer, and one of the elite guards in the league at that time.
