The 2002 NBA season was another outstanding one for Jason Kidd, who continued to play point guard for the Phoenix Suns. He appeared in 82 games for the second consecutive season, and put up impressive averages of 14.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 9.9 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, while shooting 41.2 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Kidd’s outstanding play helped lead the Suns to a 36-46 record and a playoff spot, but they were eliminated in the first round by the Sacramento Kings in five games. Despite the disappointing playoff result, Kidd had several strong performances during the year, including a 27-point, 9-assist effort in a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in December.

In recognition of his individual performance throughout the season, Kidd was named to the All-NBA First Team for the third consecutive year and to the NBA All-Defensive First Team for the seventh time in his career. He also played in the NBA All-Star Game, scoring 3 points and recording 7 assists in the Western Conference’s 135-120 win over the East.

Off the court, Kidd experienced some controversy during the season when he was arrested on domestic abuse charges, but those charges were later dismissed.

Overall, the 2002 NBA season was another strong one for Jason Kidd, who was one of the best point guards in the league and a key player for the Phoenix Suns.
