In the 1980 NBA season, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played for the Los Angeles Lakers and had an outstanding year. He was named the NBA Most Valuable Player and helped lead the Lakers to their first championship since the team moved to Los Angeles.
During the regular season, Abdul-Jabbar averaged 24.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. He was named to the NBA All-Star team for the ninth time in his career. Kareem was also named to the All-NBA First Team as well as the First Team All-Defense for the 1979-1980 season.

In Game 6, Abdul-Jabbar was even better, scoring 42 points and grabbing 15 rebounds to clinch the championship for the Lakers. It was his first championship since coming to the Lakers from the Milwaukee Bucks in 1975.
